Golden Square Pool Inc is a seasonal, voluntary run, multi-award-winning community swimming pool in Bendigo, Victoria, which was saved from closure in 2013, 2018 and, 2020 through a strong and determined community campaign.
Now, the organisation has ongoing operational management of the facility, which is a significant community achievement.
Over ten seasons, the facility has welcomed more than 150,000 people through the gates. Click here to read more about our history.
We pride ourselves on being our suburb’s community hub – more than just a place to swim, but also a vibrant, dynamic, and inclusive space that connects and grows our suburb and city.
We have health and fitness programs, a Junior Volunteering Program, our multicultural swimming program, a Community Garden, murals, live music events, family movie night and a wonderful supportive and generous community where everyone knows each other.
Our dedicated team of over one hundred volunteers manage the pool’s operation during summer, and are also active during winter fundraising for their community pool and offering social opportunities for volunteers and community members.
We have strong connections with local primary and secondary schools as well as other local not-for-profit organisations, host the state’s fourth largest outdoor VicSwim program, have a strong events program, run water aerobics and yoga classes, have a community garden, provide opportunities for connection and physical, social, mental and emotional health development, offer several strong volunteering opportunities, and help to foster the growth of young people through a Junior Volunteer Team program.
The pool is located on City of Greater Bendigo’s Linear Bike trail and has ample parking in surrounding streets. It is also served by a bus route that stops less than a block away. Our water is crystal clear, our grass green, we have shade galore, as well as a free barbecue and fully stocked kiosk - everything to set you up for an unforgettable summer, right in your own backyard.

Golden Square Baths, as we were formally known, opened on Saturday 2 February 1918 after decades of debate and lobbying by locals.
The baths were also the first in the greater Bendigo region to allow mixed bathing, with other pools soon following suit. As stated in The Bendigonian on Thursday 7 February 1918, “the committee deserved special commendation, for it had done something substantial for the people of Golden-Square and Bendigo.
By providing the means of teaching young people to swim the baths would be of inestimable benefit to the Golden-Square district and the community generally.” We aim to continue the legacy of the people of Golden Square, and the founding committee of the Golden Square Baths, and provide a place, a pool, for all to come together and enjoy, and feel like one.
